Lysander Jim, M.D.

Dr. Lysander Jim is a Board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctor who specializes in the treatment of low back pain and immunological conditions arising from damp building exposure. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in psychology (2007) and earned his medical doctorate (M.D.) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2011). Dr. Jim then completed a medical internship at new York hospital, Queens before completing his training. In 2015, Dr. Jim completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with top scholastic honors at the Veteran Affairs Hospital/University of California in Los Angeles.

After graduating from residency, Doctor Jim worked in the field of chronic pain management and the worker’s compensation system before starting a private practice to specialize in the fields where he had attained post-graduate training and education. He is the only physician in the world designated as a McGill Method Master Clinician and one of only six clinicians in the United States with the title. His diagnosis of low back pain focuses on the biomechanical underpinnings of spine injury and entails individualized coaching in posture, movement, and corrective exercise. Dr. Jim has professional expertise in resolving chronic back pain nonoperatively, rehabilitating from occupational injury, enhancing athletic performance, and, when appropriate, selecting surgical interventions.

Dr. Jim is also renowned for the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome  and other immunological conditions arising from damp building exposure. He is certified in the Shoemaker Protocol for the diagnosis and treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome. His clinical care has helped hundreds of patients recover from severe symptoms (testimonials). In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Jim works as a medical legal expert in mold litigation and regularly serves as a lecturer at national environmental health conferences where he has presented on a range of topics incuding brain health and nerve pain.

In 2017, Dr. Jim founded Mastery Medical with the primary goal of bringing better care to patients in his area of specialty. His reputation draws patients from throughout California and the United States. Dr. Jim has co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles with Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Professor Stuart McGill, and Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker. His first book Specific Spine is due for publication in early 2023. Outside of medicine, Dr. Jim’s interests include swimming, furthering his knowledge of developmental psychology, and writing.
